Investing in Our Planet with Hemp

If you know HEMPALTA, even a little bit, then you’ll know we’re all about using Hemp to Better the Planet. So when we say every day is Earth Day for us, we mean it.

This year’s Earth Day theme, Invest in Our Planet, is one that we at HEMPALTA practice on a daily basis. From our extraordinary raw material and state-of-the-art processing technology to our innovative and high-value hemp products, we’re committed to using cleantech practices to develop sustainable products that are good for all - people, pets and the planet.

Hemp is, as our President and CEO Darren Bondar likes to call it, “the earth’s own cleantech system.” It enriches the soil, decreases our use of water, pesticides and herbicides, and supports more sustainable farming practices. By buying 100% Canadian hemp from farmers, sustainably processing it, and turning it into renewable products, HEMPALTA is (re)investing in the planet.

For this blog, we decided to take a look at EARTHDAY.ORG’s 2023 action toolkit to see how we fare on the five recommended ways to invest in our planet: plant trees, reduce plastic consumption, participate in advocacy, engage in sustainable fashion and vote Earth.

Here’s what we found:

  • Plant Trees: It’s no secret that we’re huge advocates of hemp. This miracle plant has a small ecological footprint as it requires little water, grows rapidly, maximizes land use and enriches the soil - creating more room and better soil for trees to grow. Like trees, hemp purifies the air we breathe by capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. By buying large bales directly from Canadian hemp farmers, we’re helping create a healthier environment and richer soil for a greener planet.
  • Reduce Plastic Consumption: As a 100% biodegradable, recyclable and reusable material, hemp is a sustainable material that can be used as an alternative to plastic. We’re encouraging reduced plastic consumption by providing alternatives like Hemp-Fresco. A natural food preservation product made with premium Canadian hemp to keep your produce fresher, longer. It’s the perfect substitute for harmful, non-biodegradable plastic preservation options.

  • Participate in Advocacy: We’re a local company, with a global impact - and we’re pretty vocal about it because we’re advocating for our planet, today and every day. Led by passionate advocates, we’re working with progressive farmers and world-recognized researchers on our products, values and educational efforts. Check out our blogs to read more about how we’re advocating for our planet, one hemp product at a time.

  • Sustainable Fashion: Do you know that hemp fabric can actually be made into sustainable (and hip) fashion? The hemp plant, when processed for textile purposes, creates extremely soft yet highly durable fabric that’s three times stronger than cotton. Processing the hemp plant is also more energy and water efficient than cotton. The superior hemp bast fiber we use makes it the perfect material for military uniforms, seatbelts and other products that demand high durability fabrics. • Vote Earth: Voting for the Earth looks like different things to different people. How we learn, educate and engage in green practices and healthier lifestyles depends on the simple everyday choices we make. At HEMPALTA, we’re voting for the Earth through our cleantech processing, green engineering practices, and premium hemp products.
So this Earth Day, how are you investing in our planet? We’re betting on hemp - it checks all the boxes!
