HEMPALTA™ Earns Spot in SVG Ventures | THRIVE II Canada Accelerator Program
CALGARY, Alberta (February 1, 2023): Hempalta Inc. HEMPALTA has earned a coveted spot in the highly competitive SVG Ventures|THRIVE II Canada Accelerator Program. Fifteen companies from across Canada make up the cohort, which kicks off in Silicon Valley in March.
The THRIVE II Canada Cohort is the second cohort of the program that supports companies with novel technologies in the agrifood space. Over the course of the three-month program, HEMPALTA will refine its go-to-market strategy, connect live with investors and mentors in Silicon Valley and Canada, and build a foundation for scalable growth.
HEMPALTA was selected for its potential to disrupt traditional farming practices, promote industry sustainability and reduce environmental impact while giving farmers the tools to increase yields and productivity.
“We are excited to be selected as one of 15 participants in the SVG Ventures|THRIVE || Canada Accelerator Program. As proud providers of cleantech solutions to the agricultural sector, we look forward to collaborating with our cohort and connecting with investors and mentors interested in our innovative and sustainable processing of hemp, the premier raw material for today’s green revolution,” says Darren Bondar, CEO of HEMPALTA.
“This cohort highlights the strength of Canada’s agrifood industry. We continue to see Canada punch above its weight in innovation and technology in the sector and this cohort is no different,” says John Cassidy, Managing Director, Canada, SVG Ventures|THRIVE. “These companies have the potential to be global leaders some day and we are thrilled to support them along their journey.”
The THRIVE II Canada Accelerator program is in its second year of operation. The program is fiercely competitive and has an acceptance rate of 5%. Companies selected for the program have unique technological solutions solving challenges facing the agrifood industry. The 15 companies come from across Canada, representing six provinces and all regions of Canada’s agrifood landscape. These companies will benefit from three months of tailored programming, mentorship and connections that will support them in creating disruptive solutions and prepare them to win venture capital investment.
The program kicks off in March at Seed Camp in Silicon Valley, a unique week designed to inspire, connect, and educate the founders in the program. The program will culminate in a Demo Day in July with a live pitch session.
The THRIVE Canada Accelerator is made possible by funding from the Alberta Scaleup and Growth Accelerator Program led and managed by Alberta Innovates. SVG Ventures | THRIVE activities in Alberta are co-funded by a consortium that includes the Alberta Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Innovation, Alberta Innovates, Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan), and Olds College.
